Amazon’s efforts to carve out a big share of Australian online sales now include a partnership with after-hours delivery network ParcelPoint.
Amazon has followed companies including eBay, ASOS and Uniqlo in signing up for a service that allows customers to have parcels delivered to or returned from local businesses so they don’t need to wait at home or visit a post office.
“Amazon customers can now pick up and return their eligible packages when and where they want, at their local store near home or work, and we couldn’t be more excited for the convenience this will bring,” said Craig Fuller, Amazon Australia’s supply chain and transportation director.
ParcelPoint boasts more than 1,300 locations.
Amazon has already made inroads into the Australian consumer scene since launching Down Under in December 2017.
UBS analyst Ben Gilbert last month said Amazon had made a “significant” impact, with total online retail sale growth in Australia accelerating to 11 per cent in the 12 months to November 2018.
Mr Gilbert predicts the “Amazon effect” – an overall increase in online awareness and engagement – will increase that penetration to 14 per cent by 2023.
